The proposal constitutes the regeneration of an existing underutilized site with the provision of 12 townhouses in two linked terraces in a ‘new mews’ typology. The narrow fronted four storey dwellings each have two bedrooms and a separate dedicated work from home space at ground floor. All dwellings have private roof garden and an enclosed winter garden at roof level.
This entirely bespoke and unique scheme relates and responds directly to the constraints and opportunities that the site presents. The buildings will be contemporary but contextual, with a simple palette of materials selected for their appropriateness, references to the locality, and their contribution to the unique sense of place that is central to the ambition of the scheme.
One unique and oversized dwelling is proposed as a fully adaptable with provision possible for an internal lift in compliance with London Plan guidelines. This unit is proposed in counterpoint to the typical generic solution of providing accessible dwellings over a single floor in a flat typology. Only two car parking spaces are proposed for the exclusive use of Blue Badge permit holders. Extra provision is made for communal cargo and e-bikes to further encourage active travel.
The project has been widely consulted, with a formal community engagement strategy, and has high sustainability ambitions, with the opportunity for best-in-class energy efficiency and reductions in carbon in both construction and use.
